Use Save on Energy incentives and lower your business costs!

Operating a greenhouse or nursery can cost tens of thousands of dollars in electricity annually so lowering costs makes good business sense. A study by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs found that individual farms had the potential to save more than $2,000 annually with effective energy- management improvements. Lighting and fans (exhaust and re-circulation) together accounted for more than 80 per cent of possible savings. Depending on the specific conditions at each farm, savings ranged from five per cent to 80 per cent.

Almost all the farms studied could benefit financially in some way by just improving their lighting efficiency.

You already know that electricity management plays an integral role in good farm management and that electricity savings are abundantly available no matter how or where you farm. Your local hydro company has programs to help you reach those goals with financial incentives that will go directly to improving your bottom line.

Retrofit and High Performance New Construction Program Incentives

Grow efficiently year round with new LED grower lights

Rows of tomatoes at a farm  Get up to 50 per cent of your project costs back and extend your growing season by installing LED grow lights.

Did you know that LEDs use about a third of the energy compared to traditional high-pressure sodium (HPS) lighting? Using LED grow lights means you run a cooler operation, and a cool operation means bulbs can be positioned closer to plants for a more efficient use of energy. HPS bulbs contain mercury and sodium, disposal of traditional lighting can present its challenges.

Find out how to participate in the Retrofit or High Performance New Construction Program or ask your local hydro company if you qualify.
